• We followed the story of another Barnegat Bay drowning this week – one of many in what's becoming a season heavy with fatal water accidents. Nicholas Holmes, 25, of Lanoka Harbor, . His body was found later the same week. Another man in the bay near a personal watercraft not far from the Causeway last night, and around the same time when her boat capsized in Manasquan Inlet.

• On Monday, the DEP held a press conference to announce that the governor's – laid out six months ago – is moving forward with stricter fertilizer laws and a number of bay improvement projects.

• The Barnegat Branch Trail got some along its stretch in the township this week, and freeholders held a ceremony Thursday to open a new two-mile seciton of the trail in Berkeley Township. Construction on phase four of the project – another stretch from Waretown to Lacey – is expected to start in the fall.

• New Jersey lawmakers in Long Branch Friday to discuss an upcoming beach replenishment project that will add sand to a 21-mile stretch from Long Branch to Barnegat Inlet.
