UPDATE: - Mill Creek Road Open Again, Water Main Repairs Still Ongoing

Water will be turned on and off intermittently during repairs

Stafford Township police officers are directing traffic along Mill Creek Road, the site of a water main break earlier today, Mayor John Spodofora said.

"All water service has been returned to the area with a bypass around the broken main," the mayor said. "It will be interrupted shortly later to reconnect."

Work is ongoing in a 12 foot by 12 foot hole caused by the break, which is located directly across from the community center along the shoulder by the lagoon front, the mayor said.

Repairs are expected to be completed today, he said.

The water main break washed away a significant portion of the roadway earlier today. Water in the area was turned off and will go on and off intermittently as repairs take place, Spodofora said.

“Crews from the Water and Sewer Department responded quickly and it appears at this time it will be fixed today,” Spodofora said.

The mayor said that the cause of the break is under investigation. But the old pipes in an aging infrastructure, coupled with possible shifting during Superstorm Sandy are most likely contributing factors, he said.

The sand under the Community Center across the street, liquefied, causing all the floors to buckle and its foundation shift during Sandy, Spodofora said.
