The national average for Friday, April, according to AAA, rose to $3.90 (from $3.84) for regular, $4.04 (from $3.98) for midgrade and $4.17 (from $4.15) for premium. Locally, Barnegat residents are feeling an even greater pinch this week as premium prices go well over the $4 mark, with regular soon approaching. By next week most stations in the Jersey Shore area should see midgrade hit the almighty $4 mark.
Nationally, the problem seems to put politicians in a state of scrambling confusion as they find ways to ease consumer fears of a never ending cycle of rising prices. It remains to be seen if Senator Robert Menendez’s efforts to bring attention to consumer fears will bear fruit.

If you’re buying gas in Barnegat this weekend, expect to pay an average of around $3.75 for regular. The best price in Barnegat can be found at either Wawa on Bay Avenue or Riggins, both around $3.72 to $3.73 for regular. The Bay Avenue Lukoil is unusually high this week at $3.79 for regular.
If you’re in the Lacey/Forked River area, expect to pay around $3.75 for regular, slightly higher than Barnegat, but around the same as Manahawkin. The Garden State Service Center, with regular at $3.79 per gallon has gone slightly higher than surrounding stations; only fill there if you need to. The Manahawkin area is averaging around the same as the Barnegat/Waretown/Lacey area.
