Sticker shock is this week’s theme as gas prices balloon to an average hike of $.20 per gallon in our area.
Weekend travel may be a luxury for many as it's possible there will be no price relief in the coming weeks – maybe months. The national average for Friday, April 15, according to AAA, rose to $3.81 (from $3.73) for regular, $3.94 (from $3.87) for midgrade and $4.07 (from $4) for premium. While we're still below the national $4 per gallon average, that doesn't mean things are rosy here. Prices rose in Barnegat around $.20 cents, while nationally gas has risen an average of $.10.

If you’re buying gas in Barnegat this weekend you can expect to pay around $3.60 for regular. The best price in Barnegat can be found at either Wawa on Bay Avenue or Riggins, both around $3.57 to $3.55 for regular.

The Bay Avenue Lukoil is quite high this week at $3.63 for regular.
If you’re in the Lacey/Forked River area, expect to pay around $3.59 for regular – slightly higher than Barnegat, but around the same as Manahawkin. Surprisingly, the Garden State Service Center with regular at $3.53 per gallon is a good deal right now – expect that to adjust upward soon. The Manahawkin area is offering no refuge from these increases with regular at an average of $3.58, so there is no need to travel south to fill up.
