Manahawkin Girl with Diabetes Raises Funds for JDRF
9-year-old Lyndsey Clarke has had diabetes since she was 10 months old
If you like flapjacks and want to help out a good cause, come out on Saturday to the Applebee's Flapjack Breakfast: Pre-walk Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Fundraiser for "Lyndsey Lion-Heart."
The fundraiser is designed to raise funds that will go toward the JDRF, and recognizes 9-year-old Manahawkin resident Lyndsey Clarke. Lyndsey has had Type 1 insulin dependent diabetes since she was 10 months old, and participates in the walk every year.
"When I run a low sugar I get dizzy, see weird colors, feel weak and get bad headaches," Lyndsey said in a press release about the fundraiser. "When I run high I get so thirsty and words get blurry. This is why I really want a cure."

In an interview with Patch, Lyndsey's mother Debbie said that Lyndsey's team has raised thousands over the years toward meet the goal of finding a cure.
"We've raised almost $50,000 since she started," said Debbie.

The fundraiser will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at the Applebees at 205 Route 72 West, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Tickets are $10 each and include full breakfast, drinks and entertainment by DJ Mike by Jersey Shore entertainment.
There will also be various raffles, a children's toy auction, a 50/50 and bracelet and JDRF silly band sales. A response is requested by 5 p.m. September 12, so that an accurate head count can be tallied. Contact Debbie Clarke at (609) 978-5790 or (609) 290-2804 for details.
