Only 26 Sandy Hazard Mitigation Elevation Grants Out of 2,600 Approved So Far, Report Says

New Jersey officials probably won’t put the vast majority of grant checks in the mail for a Superstorm Sandy elevation program until the end of summer, close to two years after the storm hit — the latest sign of the state’s slow push out of Sandy recovery money to storm victims, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.

.The application period for hazard mitigation elevation grants — worth up to $30,000 for existing homes — closed last September, but Republican Gov. Chris Christie’s environmental chief told lawmakers Monday only 26 grants have received full approvals.
