Tides of March

Barge spilling fuel into the bay

With the morning came a nice surprise: The smell of diesel fuel a Bulkhead completely ripped out but a untouched west bound side Manahwkin Bridge.

Acme pilings of Toms River was contracted to repair the Pilings around the pump station that sits just north of the bridge it relays sewage to Cedar Bonnet Island. See video and story

Through the night, we monitored the barge living right next to bridge. I will say it was pretty harry at times walking out to the bridge lot debris in the water etc.

We waited for the surge that most weather stations had predicted around 4 a.m. It never came.

The barge and excavator now sit in the water, leaking diesel fuel into the Manahawkin Bay. There are no booms out yet; in fact, there's no activity at all. My road on Railroad Avenue was pounded very badly and debris is blocking it as i write this. I have moved what I can alone but will need the township's help. A rip rock barrier needs to line this road to protect as evident in the photos .

We dodged a big one here. Why this Barge wasn't checked and moved, allowed to park next to the bridge is a question someone needs to answer. If, in fact, it did hit the bridge, damage or not officals, woud have to close the bridge for public safety And during a storm like last night, that would mean LBI would be on its own .
