22nd Annual Women’s Health Night Planned at Southern Ocean Medical Center

On Wednesday, October 23, the women of southern Ocean County will once again be treated to an evening focusing on their personal health and wellness during Southern Ocean Medical Center’s 22nd Annual Women’s Health Night from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the first floor of the hospital.  The evening will offer free health screenings, literature, educational seminars, the opportunity to meet Southern Ocean Medical Center physicians, interactive displays, light refreshments and giveaways.

 

The free health screenings include balance, blood pressure, blood sugar, bone densitometry, colorectal cancer, foot screenings, hearing screenings, lipid profile screenings, pulmonary function, pap smears, and stroke risk assessment. Participants who wish to have a pap smear are required to register by calling 1-800-560-9990.

The lipid profile screening, a cholesterol test, will take place on Monday, October 21 in the Beach Plum Conference Room at Southern Ocean Medical Center from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Participants must fast for 10 hours prior to having blood drawn, and results will be available during Women’s Health Night on October 23.

The informative evening will also feature four lectures about women’s health from some of Southern Ocean’s expert physicians. At 4:45 p.m., board-certified urologist Charles Fernicola, M.D., will discuss urinary control. John Tozzi, M.D., a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, will speak about women and joint replacement at 5:30 p.m. At 6:15 p.m., board-certified neurologist Tommasina Papa-Rugino, M.D., will discuss women and memory. And, Tommy Ng, M.D., a board-certified cardiologist, will talk about women and heart disease at 7:00 p.m. “Last year, nearly 400 women attended Women’s Health Night, which shows how meaningful these health services are to women in the Southern Ocean community,” says Joseph P. Coyle, president of Southern Ocean Medical Center.

 

Doors open for registration at 4:30 p.m. the day of the event in Southern Ocean Medical Center’s main lobby. Southern Ocean Medical Center is located at 1140 Route 72 West in Manahawkin.
