AGE: 78 • Waretown

Alvah "Hall" Warren III, of Waretown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at age 78.

Hall was born in St. Paul, Minn. to the late Daisy Lett and Alvah Hall Warren II and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Hall graduated from Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh, PA.

He graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, MA with a B.A. degree in History and Literature and received a M.A. degree in American and African History from San Francisco State University.

He taught American History at Webb School, Claremont CA and taught American History and American literature at Westridge School in Pasadena, CA.

Following his teaching career, Hall pursued his love of travel and circled the globe on three different trips. In addition to being a local freelance writer in Carmel, CA, he was a travel tour guide, real estate agent and an Outdoor enthusiast.

Hall volunteered as a Docent at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve in Carmel and was a volunteer at the Monterey History and Art Association. Hall Warren and Eileen Kirby were longtime California residents and moved to New Jersey in 2011 to be close to their families.

Hall is survived by Eileen Kirby, his companion of 30 years; his niece, Leatrice D. Elliman of Montchanin, DE; and nephews, Warren H. Dean of Colorado Springs. CO, and Calisle S. Dean of Seattle, WA.

Calling hours will be from 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 8,  until the memorial service at 3:30 p.m. at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive in Manahawkin.

The family request donations either to the Point Lobos State Natural Reserve in Carmel, CA or the PopCorn Park Zoo, Humane Way, Forked River, NJ. Condolences may be sent to www.shinnfuneralhome.com.
