AGE: 86 • Barnegat

Robert D. Pennabere, 86, of Barnegat, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014.

Born in Belleville, he is a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Robert formerly resided in Maywood and was employed by Matheson Gas Products in East Rutherford, before retiring to Ocean County 30 years ago.

He was a member of The Old Guard of Lacey Township and an usher at St. Francis Church on Long Beach Island, as well as an avid golfer and Giants football fan.

Predeceased by a brother, Alexander "Bert" Pennabere, he is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Helen (Palazzo); two children and their spouses, Michael J. and Donna Pennabere, Robert A. and Margaret Pennabere; and four grandchildren, Jaclyn Higginson and husband Raymond, Michael, Kelly and Lisa Pennabere.

A viewing will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 1 at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat. A Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 2 at St. Francis Church, Brant Beach. Private cremation to follow. (www.BarnegatFH.com)
