OPINION: Why Is Stafford Getting Not One, But Two New Community Centers?

Mr. Mayor, after reading about this, I can't even find the words to describe the sentiment I have towards you and your "crew."

I find it beyond offensive and overall appalling that you would engage and then approve and support the building of two new community centers in Stafford when a majority of the residents do not even have a home to live in. What planet could you possibly be from?

To approve the spending of over $2M to accomplish this is completely insane. How do you think this is going to be paid for? You and all those support: You should have your heads examined.

To my fellow residents: How is it that we can allow this to happen? How is it that no one is raising questions and challenging these inept people who are running out town?

Re: complaints community centers vs. private homes: IMHO, Why should Stafford tax $$ go to rebuild private homes? MANY people paid flood insurance and took a hit on repairing their homes. Govt $$ thru FEMA and grants can help, but homeowners can't expect govt to pick up the entire tab. As for Mr. Sorce's comments: agenda sessions -- or any meeting where a quorum is established -- are subject to the Sunshine Law, are they not?

Sal when you get that information please send me a copy or let's meet to discuss. I would love to see it as well, the only way to be able to hold people accountable is with correct and accurate info. Ann, you're completely missing the point. No one is asking Stafford to pay for their homes. What we are asking is why is our Mayor so gung ho and anxious to spend over $2M of yours and mine tax dollars on community center(S)..plural... when so many people don't even have a home to go to in the community? Why is he not full of the same zeal to hold our governor accountable and those very same flood insurance carriers that you mentioned??? Not sure what damages you sustained, but FEMA our Gov't and the NFIP are one in the same....the NFIP holds, mandates & directs your flood insurance policy, your carrier is merely the henchman to get the cash from you from your premium...I as a policy holder expect my claim to be paid appropriately and accordingly. Again with Mr. Sorce I think you are missing the point, his very issue is not that information is not available, it's the details of that information. Hard to know what your elected officials are spending when they charge a majority of expenses to that Miscellaneous account....the catch all account to bury what they want no one to see what's being spent and to whom....

Mike this guy sal is probably one of the most involved private citizens you can ever hope to find. We have been watching him for years. You 2 should one day meet up and pick each others brains you will learn a lot from one another. anonymous
