Barnegat Braces for Yet Another Storm

To prepare for the pending Barnegat and Ocean Townships were yesterday performing "protective measures" along their respective bayfront areas that were left vulnerable from Hurricane Sandy, including fortifying areas left damaged and exposed with concrete barriers and sand.

Barnegat police said yesterday that although coastal flooding is not expected to be as bad as last week, residents should expect tidal flooding "and take necessary action to protect property, including relocating your vehicle if needed."  They noted that residents should secure or remove all outside items such as lawn furniture, seasonal decorations, and flags. Also, "please make sure the street storm drains in your neighborhood are cleared and clean in order to prevent street flooding," township police noted on their Facebook page. 

Police also noted "with wind gusts approaching 60 mph, there is a chance of power outages once again. Please contact your respective utility company immediately if you should happen to lose power during this storm. Make sure all cell phones are fully charged along with any other portable electronic device. Also, have flashlights readily available. "

Township officials noted additional joint emergency management statements will be issued as conditions warrant.

In other news, school officials notified the Patch that school will be held Thursday, November 8 and Friday, November 9 of this week.
