Barnegat Driver Hit Utility Pole And Left The Scene, Police Say
The incident resulted in a DWI and a hit-and-run charge
An intoxicated driver hit a utility pole and damaged landscaping outside of a home on Allison Way late last month, according to the latest from the Barnegat Police Department.
On May 28 at 5 p.m. police said James Ryan, 47, of Barnegat, ran his corvette into a pole while drunk at the wheel, then left the scene in what they described as a "hit and run" incident.
Patrolman Chris Ebert had responded to the area to investigate a report that a black Chevrolet Corvette had struck a utility pole, police said.

With the help of eyewitnesses, Ebert located the corvette in the garage of a Benjamin Drive residence, police said, then through further investigation, Ebert was able to determine that Ryan had been operating the vehicle at the time of the accident and was intoxicated.
Ryan was processed and released with summonses for DWI, reckless driving, failure to keep right, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident.
