Barnegat Officials: Warming Center Established, Public Works Collecting Debris

Residents will be able to get warm and recharge electronic devices.

As crews work to restore power to the 2,000 or so in Barnegat town officials noted they have opened a "warming center," at  the Barnegat Recreation Center located behind Town Hall at 900 West Bay Avenue.

The building will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until power is restored to the town. Residents will be able to get warm and recharge electronic devices, but the building is not meant to be a shelter, as no cots wil be available, and overnight stays are not permitted, according to a statement from police.

Also this weekend, Barnegat officials noted that all residents are urged to place storm debris at the curb for collection. At this time, there is no limit to the amount of storm debris that can be placed at the curb for collection, and Public Works contractors will collect all weekend. Additionally, people living on the bayfront can sue the Municipal Dock as a drop off site for storm debris only.

"Crews will constantly cycle through the town collecting debris until there is no longer a need," officials said.

Normal trash and recycling collection resumes on Monday, November 5, 2012. Waste Management, the trash contractor, has been instructed by the Township to relax the collection regulations and to collect all storm debris placed out at the curb for collection. Essentially, if the trash collectors can lift it up, it will be taken, however, this will not include brus or trees.  A seperate collection is being performed for those items.
