Both have been charged with possession of heroin and endangering the welfare of Loudis’ children, after the car they were driving was stopped by police as part of the investigation, Barnegat Lt. Keith Germain said.

Loudis, who was driving, had heroin and drug paraphernalia on her. Her children, ages 1 and 3, were in the back seat. They were taken into protective custody by the police and turned over to family members, Germain said. The case was referred to the state Division of Youth and Family Services, he said.

Loudis was charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree possession of heroin, driving under the influence, reckless driving, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, and driving while suspended, Germain said.

At the same time as the motor vehicle stop was taking place, Germain said, police officers executed a search warrant at Sheerer’s home on Village Drive, Germain said. They discovered heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, he said.

Sheerer was charged with third-degree possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, third-degree possession of heroin, third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The search warrant was executed with assistance from the Ocean County Regional SWAT team and Barnegat Police K-9 Unit.
