Barnegat Police Charge Man At Center of 9-11 Controversy With Assault

The man who is now the subject of probes about his activities as a first responder during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks has been arrested for simple assault, police said.

The incident happened on Aug. 28 at 8:07 pm. at a home on East Bay Avenue, police said.

Patrolman Richard Carr responded to a call at the address and subsequently arrested and charged Charles J. Giles with assault, Lt. Keith Germain said.

"I am legally restricted from releasing victim information or other details of the incident in this case," he said.

Giles lives at 564 East Bay Avenue in Barnegat, according to Whitepages.com.

News 12 New Jersey just finished a two-part piece on Giles' claims about his injuries suffered during 9-11.

Giles told Patch today he would have no further comment on the controversy or the assault charge and referred all questions to his attorney.
