BARNEGAT POLICE REPORT: Hit and Run Leads to DWI arrest

Man allegedly hit a parked car on Deer Run South.

An 18-year-old Barnegat man has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated  following an incident on Deer Run Drive South.

On November 24th at 11:08 p.m., Barnegat police arrested Corey Phillips, 18, after Phillips allegedly struck a parked car on Deer Run Drive South and fled the scene.

Based on a description of the vehicle provided by a witness, Ptl. Brian Weber located Phillips's vehicle parked on Laurel Lane, however, Phillips was not in the vehicle.

About 30 minutes after the accident occurred, Ptl. George Martin located Phillips walking in the area of Deer Run Drive South and placed him under arrest.

Phillips was processed and released with charges of DWI, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, and failure to report a motor vehicle accident.

Also, on November 27th at 1:10 a.m., Patrolman Robert Armstrong arrested Briana Ridgway, 19, of Forked River and Ryan Thornberry, 19, of Barnegat on drug charges after an investigation and K9 search led to the discovery of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Ptl. Armstrong stopped the vehicle in which Ridgway and Thornberry were traveling on West Bay Avenue after a random Motor Vehicle computer inquiry showed that Ridgway had a suspended driver's license.

During the stop, Ptl. Armstrong allegedly detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle and upon investigation, he recovered a bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia from the car.

Both were charged with possession of marijuana less than 50 grams and Ridgway was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Both  were processed and released on their own recognizance.
