Barnegat Woman Struck While Crossing Route 9

Township woman airlifted to AtlantiCare after pedestrian accident

A Barnegat woman was injured Wednesday evening when she was struck by a car while crossing Route 9 near Union Boulevard, police said.

At 6:39 p.m., Jane Maydish, 34, of Union Boulevard, was attempting to cross the highway when she was hit by a southbound vehicle, said Lt. Keith Germain of the Barnegat Township Police Department. 

Police said Maydish was not using a designated crosswalk when she was struck.

Maydish suffered leg and head injuries and was airlifted by Monoc helicopter to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, Germain said. 

The driver of the car, whose name has not been released, was not issued any summonses, and no charges are pending, said Germain.

A hospital representative said no information would be released on Maydish's condition at this time.
