Bicyclist Hit by Car in Stafford

Woman was flown to Atlantic City Trauma.

A 27-year-old Manahawkin woman was flown to Atlantic City Trauma Center Wednesday after the bike she was riding was hit by a car. 

Around 9:30 a.m., Stafford Township police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist and a vehicle in front of Southern Regional High School. 

An investigation suggested that a vehicle operated by Gregory Nelson, 28, of Lanoka Harbor was traveling south on Route 9 in front of the high school and collided with a bicycle operated by Marta Velasquez, of Manahawkin.

Velasquez sustained severe injury from the collision and was airlifted to Atlantic City Trauma center for treatment, police said. 

Traffic was diverted down Cedar Bridge Road during the scene investigation.  Velasquez was listed in stable condition.
