Boardwalk Fire Flares Up Again; No News on Cause

Security teams will cover scene 24 hours a day through at least Monday night

A security team patrolling the fire zone in Seaside Park early Sunday morning discovered a flare up fire in a debris pile at the southern end of the boardwalk directly behind the Sawmill Bar, officials said.

The flames, observed around 2:20 a.m., was extinguished by 3 a.m. when authorities were able to clear the scene, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

"Security/Traffic details are covering the fire zone around the clock until 6 p.m. on Monday, at which time emergency management officials will convene to reassess if future operations are necessary," said Della Fave, in an e-mail.

The security teams are being staffed by members of the Seaside Heights and  Seaside Park police departments, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Ocean County Sheriff's Department, and New Jersey State Police.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the cause of the fire will continue through Sunday. Della Fave said he does not expect any announcements on the outcome of the investigation to be made Sunday.
