Overdue Tuckerton Boat Located

Miscommunication led to search, boat was not due back until later today

Coast Guard officials have located a fishing boat out of Tuckerton, with all three boaters safely on board.

Three boaters departed Tuckerton at approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday aboard a white, 28-foot pleasure craft, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Nick Ameen.

One of the three boaters informed his father that he and his companions were going fishing 60 miles offshore. His father thought they were supposed to return at 6 a.m. this morning, but were actually not due back until 6 p.m. When they did not return at the 6 a.m. time, the father contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Delaware Bay.

A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City was launched to search for the overdue boaters, according to a statement from the Coast Guard.

Ameen said the incident is a good example who why boaters should file a float plan before hitting the water, and clearly communicate travel and departure and arrival times with family and friends.
