Eighteen-Year-Old Suffers Head Injury In Two-Car Accident On Route 72 In Barnegat
Accident occurred near intersection with Route 532.
An 18-year-old woman was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City Sunday evening after suffering a head injury in a motor vehicle accident on Route 72 in Barnegat.
Officers responded to the two-car motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Routes 72 and 532 at 4:43 p.m., according to Barnegat Police Lt. Keith Germain.
A Hyundai Elantra operated by George Nelson, 48, of Manahawkin was traveling east on Route 72 when a Honda Accord operated by Karyn Northerner, 18, of Manahawkin pulled onto Route 72 from Route 532 causing the vehicles to collide, Germain said.
Northerner, who was not wearing her seat belt, was airlifted by Monoc helicopter with a head injury.
Nelson refused medical attention at the scene.

Northerner was issued summonses for failure to yield the right of way at an intersection and failure to wear a seatbelt, according to police.
Northerner's condition was not yet available.
