UPDATED: Electricity Restored After Major Outage in Barnegat
JCP&L cites "equipment failure"
Power has been restored in Barnegat after a widespread outage shortly after 6 a.m. left much of the township without electricity, officials said.
A JCP&L representative said the outage affected 2,280 customers in Barnegat and was caused by "equipment failure"; no further details on what triggered the loss of electricity were currently available.
In an email alert sent out just after 7 a.m., the township notified residents that power was out along Route 9, East Bay Avenue and West Bay Avenue, Georgetown Road, Gunning River Road and in parts of the Settlers Landing development.

Traffic lights were out the intersection of Gunning River Road and Route 9 and Georgetown Road and Route 9, and officers were called in to direct traffic.
Power was restored at 7:16 a.m., JCP&L reported.
