Barnegat man indicted following assault on officer; Florida man charged with theft of gun

The following indictments were recently handed up in Superior Court in Toms River, according to court records:

A Highland Drive, Barnegat, man is charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting his attempts to arrest him according to an indictment returned by an Ocean County grand jury. Russell S. Hawk, 52, is charged with assaulting Ptl. Robert Armstrong on May 5, obstructing his investigation, threatening to kill him and resisting arrest. Hawk is free on $25,000 bail.

John R. Gross, of Florida, was charged with stealing a .45 caliber pistol from William Gross. The theft took place Sept. 5 in Barnegat.
