Stafford police who responded to a fight in the Kmart store on Route 72 West ended up arresting four men on various shoplifting and drug charges after they fled the store.
Officers arrived at the store at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday to a report of a fight in progress. The store's loss prevention officer told police he was assaulted by the men after he confronted them about shoplifting multiple items valued at $284 from the store, police said.
The occupants inside of the car refused to cooperate with him and fled the scene. Little Egg Harbor Police located the vehicle a short time later and initiated a traffic stop near Center and Oakleaf streets in Tuckerton, Stafford police said.
Stafford Police went to Tuckerton, arrested the four men and brought them back to Stafford police headquarters.
• Brandon A. Venditto, 18, Barnegat, was charged with robbery, possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.
• Christopher T. Hayek, 18, Tuckerton ,was charged with conspiracy to commit shoplifting
• Marco A. Negron Jr., 18, Little Egg Harbor, was charged with conspiracy to commit shoplifting.
• Alberto T. Inserra, 20, Little Egg Harbor, was charged with conspiracy to commit shoplifting, possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hayek, Negron, and Inserra were processed and released on a summons pending a future court date in Stafford Township Municipal Court.
Venditto was processed and transported to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River. His bail was set at $25,000, with no ten percent option. The arresting officer was Patrolman Giovanni DeMarco, who was assisted by Patrolman Mauro.
