Boaters OK After Sailboat Overturns off Cedar Bonnet Island

Local, state crews respond

Three boaters were unharmed after being rescued when the sailboat they were piloting overturned off Cedar Bonnet Island in Manahawkin Friday afternoon.

The boat's owner, whose name was not released, decided to walk his boat back to his house after the rescue effort, said New Jersey State Police Trooper Christopher Kay.

State Police marine units responded to the scene after a call about the overturned boat came in shortly before 4 p.m. In addition to the troopers, local crews including the Beach Haven Fire Department and Barnegat Light Fire Department responded to the scene. The Beach Haven crew reached the victims first, reports said.
