MANAHAWKIN POLICE REPORT: An Accident, Shoplifting And A Restraining Order

Police arrest a man for shoplifting; another for violating a restraining order

A 43-year-old Little Egg Harbor man was arrested for shoplifting Friday, according to the Stafford PBA.

Stafford Township Police arrested Francis McDaniels for shoplifting at the Kmart on Route 72, according to the PBA.

McDaniels was observed by store security placing a picture frame, a plant and an orange soda into a shopping cart of merchandise he had already purchased, the PBA said.

McDaniels attempted to exit the store with the unpaid items, which were valued at $29.58, and was stopped outside the exit. Stafford Police arrived, arrested McDaniels and transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed. 

He was later released pending ahearing in Stafford Township Municipal Court.

A Lacey man has been arrested for violating a restraining order, according to the PBA.

Steven Doell was arrested after the Stafford Township Police Department responded to a report of trespassing near Paul Boulevard in Manahawkin.

Further investigation revealed Doell was allegedly in violation of an active restraining order, the PBA said.

Doell was placed under arrest, transported to the police department, processed, and then released after posting $2,500 in bail.

Also:

No one was injured when three cars collided on Route 72 easbound, near the Dutchman's Restaurant, on Friday, according to the PBA.

A vehicle driven by a 63-year-old Westwood man was stopped in heavy traffic. Another vehicle was stopped behind it, and operated by a 69-year-old woman of Vineland.

A third vehicle operated by a 21-year-old Bloomsbury woman crashed into the rear of the one vehicle, pushing it into the other car.

All vehicles sustained moderate damage, but the 21-year-old received a summons for careless driving, the PBA said.
