Manahawkin Woman Charged With Assaulting Police Officer

By Patricia A. Miller

Stafford Township police recently arrested a Mark Drive woman after she assaulted a police officer who responded to a domestic violence report.

Emily Anne Burnite, 22, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest in connection with the Nov. 22 incident, police said.

Police arrived at the home at 2:23 a.m. after they received a 911 call for an "active verbal domestic violence" report. Burnite was taken to the Stafford Township police department, where she was processed and released. A municipal court date is pending, police said.

All she would of had to do to bring this charge was shove a police officer and its aggravated assault due to his position...was it a shove or did she out and out hit and try to harm the officer, be nice to know what kind of neighbors we are near...If she out and out assaults an officer she would have no problem hitting a civilian.. geez...wake up people..

I live across the lagoon from Mark dr and saw what happened with my binoculars...The way that they were manhandling this small girl who was clearly confused, crying, and upset; the way they threw her on the ground in broken glass as she screamed for them to stop hurting her (she was already hand-cuffed) the way they drug her down a long flight of stairs, the way the officers were smiling as they were doing this (getting their jollies off and "teaching her a real lesson"), and the sheer abusive manner in the way they handled this situation made me sick and I am disgusted! I was on the verge of filing a complaint against the department, but I don't want them breaking into my house next!! This was a complete abuse of power and I feel sorry for the "real victim" in this incident, which was this young girl...The police used excessive force in this situation and this is a shame!

You must do the right thing anonymous. You have to get in contact with this young lady and bring those who violated her rights to some sort of justice. I myself have never seen them act that way but there is a first time for everything and Im sure you have that Its not my problem thing ringing in your head but you must ignore it. Next time it could be you or me. You are in a position to make a difference however big or small and with that position comes a responsibility to others. We the residents of stafford must make it clear to our police force that brutality in any form will not be tolerated and officers can be replaced. Hope you do what you feel is right. anonymous

We are on a tyrannical cliff as a country and the police are training in a militaristic manor. Prepare for more of this and worse. You wonder why they want a disarmed public?
