UPDATE: Missing Barnegat Man Located, Silver Alert Cancelled

An elderly Barnegat man reported missing Tuesday has been found and is safe, Lt. Keith Germain said.

Werner Dirr, East Bay Avenue, was reported driving his car on Route 195 in Hamilton Township by a motorist who was aware of the Silver Alert issued last night, Germain said.

"Hamilton Police Department officers were able to locate and stop Dirr's vehicle while it was exiting from Route 195," he said. "Dirr was unharmed."

Dirr, who is said to be in the early stages of Alzheimer Disease, left his home at noon on Tuesday and failed to return. Barnegat sent Dirr's information to the New Jersey State Police Regional Operations and Intelligence Center (ROIC) for a Silver Alert broadcast.
