A grand jury in Freehold recently indicted a Barnegat man on charges that he came to Middletown in possession of illegal drugs on November 4, and planned to distribute them while in the vicinity of Bicentennial Park at Twin Brooks Avenue and Route 35.
Louis M. Coscia, 34, Third Street, Barnegat, is facing six counts of possession and intent to distribute heroin and Methylone near a public place.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration fact sheet, Methylone -- formally identified as 3,4 Methylenedioxy-methcathinone -- is a "designer drug" also known as "bath salts," "Molly," and "Explosion."
The formal charges of possession with intent to distribute Methylone, and intent to distribute Methylone or heroin while near a public park, are considered second degree crimes and could result in a potential penalty of five to 10 years in jail if a defendant is convicted.
The rest of the charges are considered third degree offenses, punishable by three to five years in jail if convicted,
The June 26 indictment by a grand jury in Monmouth County is merely a formally charge, and not a conviction. Defendant are presumed innocent, unless found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt following trial.
