'Most Wanted' Fugitive From NJ Nabbed in Florida

Robert Marone, a convicted murder, has been using an alias for more than 15 years, authorities say

A convicted murder who police say has been in hiding for more than 15 years has been arrested in Florida.

Detectives from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department arrested Robert Marone, 69, on Friday after receiving a citizen's tip relayed from the New Jersey State Police's Fugitive tipline, according to a release from the Office of the Attorney General.

Marone, who was living under an alias in Fort Lauderdale, was wanted by the New Jersey Parole Board on a violation stemming from a 1971 murder conviction. In 1992, he was charged with aggravated sexual assault on a child in Ocean County and has been on New Jersey's 12 Most Wanted list since 1995.

"The cooperative effort leading to the apprehension of Robert Marone is a excellent example of how well law enforcement can work together to accomplish a common goal," said Colonel Rick Fuentes, superintendent of the New Jersey State Police.

"We are grateful for the fast actions of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department in assisting us to close the cell doors on this two-decades-old fugitive case."

The New Jersey State Police had received a tip from a citizen who called the fugitive tipline (800-437-7838) after researching Marone on the Web. Florida authorities nabbed Marone in less than an hour after receiving information from the New Jersey State Police, the release said.

Marone is lodged in the Broward County Jail, awaiting extradition to New Jersey.

So....forty years ago this guy was convicted of murder and twenty years ago he attacked a child and he somehow was merrily living his life in sunny Florida....lovely. How scary for those who came in contact with him all these years and didn't know.

Looks like he is close to death already.I guess murdering someone wasn't enough to keep this scumbag behind bars? So he gets parole and commits a sex offense.this P.O.S deserves a bullet behind his ear and a shallow grave!

He deserves the needle if our State would have ever had the brass to use it.

No kidding Diane...an eye for an eye. These days with forensics being what it is, the argument against death penalty because it might kill an innocent person doesn't hold up too well.

too bad our gov crisco is more concerned about having troopers escorting race cars up the parkway instead of having the stones to bring back the death penalty. at least those two creeps who murdered that doctor's wife and two daughters in the state of conn. got the death penalty. our gov is more interested in diners than justice.

12-17-2007-TRENTON — Gov. Jon S. Corzine signed into law a measure repealing New Jersey’s death penalty on Monday, making the state the first in a generation to abolish capital punishment. So it is not the Fatman's fault its the bleeding heart Liberals who would rather commute the convicts sentence at a cost to the tax payers of 50 grand a yr to house these scumbags!
Mr. Corzine also issued an order commuting the sentences of the eight men on New Jersey’ death row to life in prison with no possibility of parole, ensuring that they will stay behind bars for the rest of their lives.

Like I say, it seems interesting where someone like this is always able to find a friendly judge or politician to bail them out. It makes one wonder about what people like these judges and "leaders" are deep down.
