UPDATE: Nearly 7,000 Without Power As Storm Pounds Manahawkin

Trees and signs are down, roads are filled with water and power is out for nearly 7,000 customers as a severe thunderstorm has wreaked havoc in Manahawkin.

UPDATE: Long Beach Township police have warned people against using ocean roads. Numerous disabled vehicles have been reported in the area.

There were unconfirmed reports of damage Lighthouse Christian Church in Manahawkin.

"Lots" of flooding have been reported in Surf City along the main and side streets.

A tornado warning for the Manahawkin and LBI area has been canceled, the National Weather Service is reporting.

The National Weather Service doppler radar said the severe thunderstorm was "capable" of producing a tornado, and that the storm is near Manahawkin.

A tornado was reportedly near Harvey Cedars by 11 a.m. and then threatened to move to Barnegat Light, the NWS reported.

The National Weather Service is saying to take precautions, such evacuating or remain in a stable area. Motorists should not take shelter under overpasses.
