Pair Indicted on Burglary, Theft Charges

Ocean County grand juries hand up indictments

A Barnegat homeowner was victimized by a pair who broke in and stole jewelry, an Ocean County indictment charges.

Scott Esser, 39, of Union and Cathleen A. Krehely, 23, of Manchester were indicted last week on burglary and theft charges after two break-ins.

The pair are accused of breaking into an Old Brookville Road home Sept. 26 and stealing more than $500 in jewelry that they then sold in Roms River, the indictment charges.

Esser and Krehely also are accused of burglarizing a Jackson home Oct. 24 and stealing more than $500 in jewelry and electronics.

Both were charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft and one count of dealing in stolen property.

Krehely made bail Oct. 25 and is awaiting trial. Esser remains in jail on $165,000 bail, no 10 percent option.

Grand juries also indicted: 

  • Michael Solden, 23, of Barnegat on weapons charges.

Solden, a Village Drive resident, was charged with unlawful possession of a shotgun after being arrested July 3 in Barnegat for allegedly owning a Daisy .177-caliber BB gun without a permit.

He also faces a charge of possession of a weapon by a convicted person, as Solden was previously convicted of a burglary charge.

He remains lodged in jail on $10,000 bail, no 10 percent option.
