Police Charge Barnegat Man With Wallet Theft At Country Farms Store

Barnegat police recently arrested a Village Drive man with the theft of a wallet after watching him on surveillance video at at the Country Farms store on West Bay Avenue, Lt. Keith Germain said.

Patrolman Anthony King arrested Eugene Steinhauer III, 20, at 1:17 p.m. on Nov. 30, according to the police report.

Officers responded to the store after it was reported that a female victim had left her wallet at the counter after purchasing lottery tickets. When she returned a short time later, she discovered the wallet was gone, Germain said.

Officers reviewed the surveillance video and noticed that the suspect who took the wallet used a credit card to pay for his items. A check of the credit card purchase information revealed Steinhauer as the subject, police said.

Officers spoke with Steinhauer at his home and arrested him for theft. Police recovered the victim's wallet and all of its contents - valued at $239 - which they returned to her, Germain said.

Steinhauer was charged with theft and was processed and released pending a court date.
