Witnesses say man stole $343 worth of cigars from Route 9 store

Police are investigating a Sunday evening robbery that occurred at the Route 9 Wawa here in Barnegat.

Police responded to the Wawa at 6:54 p.m. Sunday, said Lt. Patrick Shaffery of the Barnegat Township Police Department, and discovered that a black male had entered the store and filled a bag with seceral boxes of cigars from behind the counter.

When an employee confronted the man, he pushed the employee and left the store with the cigars, which were worth approximately $343, Shaffery said.

The employee was unhurt, Shaffery said, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
