Toms River police are trying to find a bronze statue of William Hiering that was stolen from the campus of Ocean County College on Wednesday.

The statue was removed from its stone base and was likely taken for its scrap metal value, said police spokesman Ralph Stocco.

Police are still looking into the theft, he said.

"We assume it was taken for scrap metal value and may be anywhere in the tri state area," Stocco said.

As the theft was recently reported to police, information on its exact location on the OCC campus and details of its size and weight were not available.

The Hiering name is a familiar one on the OCC campus. In 2000, the college opened the William T. Hiering Science Building which houses houses six laboratories, one large classroom, a lecture hall with 120 seats as well as office space.

Police are asking anyone with information on the theft to contact Detective Randy Petrick at 732-349-0150, ext. 1235, or send a tip via the police department's Facebook page.

Makes you wounder what kind of management is running the security department. How does something like this happen with hundreds of cameras around campus? Bob Kumpf is the security chef and he really needs to reorganize his nightly crew who will manage the college more securely during the evening.. If a several hundred pound statue head can get stolen, god only knows what else has been stolen under the colleges nose..

How is anyone going to melt this down before they scrap it? You can't! Do you think the scrap metal place is gonna accept this from someone? Obviously it's stolen and if the scrap metal place were smart, they would call the authorities immediately and have whoever arrested.

I read the blogs from ole Smack Jenny and I had to comment. 10K of water for 12 hours? Did you have first hand info here? or are you just regurgitating "facts" from some moron. The building was checked as were the other 20 buildings that night. OCC is one of the safest college campuses in this state! As far as a statue getting stolen, does it weigh 700 lbs? More of your fun facts? Hey listen Smack if you want to come to OCC and show the security team a thing or two, sign up as a reservist. You could impress us all with your knowledge of security and maybe you could get more accurate facts for your next bullshniz blog!

Dang Smack Jenny, another one? First off, you should attend OCC. It is a great school and maybe they could touch up yer speakin skylls some! Wounder? was that Wonder? Security CHEF? You mean Chief right? I hate to play the school marm but if you are slingin the shiz you gotta keep yours straight. The college security department is run very well. Things have been stolen and most if not all of the folks that committed the thefts were caught. There are not "hundreds " of cameras on compus dude, sounds a little hysterical dont ya think? Oh and about your "700" pound statue (you mean the 250 pound bust) you have to keep one thing in mind Smack. Anything can be stolen at any time, by anyone. I could steal your skivvies off of you given the right circumstances. Again I gotta say Smack, either you or the mope you have been talking to have to get their "facts" straight. If your gonna talk the shiz fool at least keep it straight.
