Ship Bottom Crash Victim Cut From Vehicle As Four Sent To Hospital

All four occupants of two vehicles involved in a two-car crash at the intersection of Central Avenue and 9th Street in Ship were transported to the hospital on Monday evening.

According to unconfirmed reports from witnesses, police and emergency responders, an eastbound gray Jeep allegedly attempted to pass through the intersection of 9th Street and Barnegat Boulevard and struck a southbound white Honda minivan as the light was changing around 6 p.m. Monday.  

As a result of the collision, the broadsided (T-boned) minivan turned 90 degrees, vaulted the curb in front of the Wawa strip mall and struck a vehicle in the parking lot.

Emergency responders from the Surf City Volunteer Fire Company were needed to cut at least one person, the minivan front seat passenger, from that vehicle.

All of those involved, two persons from each vehicle, were transported to Southern Ocean County Medical Center in Manahawkin, according to emergency responders on the scene.

The parked vehicle belonging to a Wawa employee was unoccupied at the time and appeared to be damaged.

Surf City’s Volunteer Fire Company is the extraction team for Long Beach Island. Other responders on the scene included the Beach Haven First Aid Squad, who transported the victims, Ship Bottom and Long Beach Township police and members of the local LBI fire police volunteers, who closed off streets and redirected traffic around the scene.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Ship Bottom Police Department. There is no report as to the condition of the victims as of press time.
