Ship Bottom Man Charged With Murdering Neighbor

Man accused of striking another with a motor vehicle Wednesday night, resulting in victim's death

A Ship Bottom senior suffered serious injuries and died Wednesday night after being struck by his neighbor's motor vehicle, Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said in a release.

Ship Bottom Police arrived to West 7th Street at 7:19 p.m. Wednesday, where they found James Hunsinger, 73, lying in a driveway with "very serious injuries," the release said.

Hunsinger, of 244 West 7th Street, was taken to the Atlantic City Medical Center, where he died at 10:55 p.m.

The man who allegedly struck Hunsinger, Terrence O’Brien, 63, also of 244 West 7th Street, was charged with murder.

"It is alleged that Mr. O’Brien intentionally struck Mr. Hunsinger with a motor vehicle, which resulted in Mr. Hunsinger’s death," the release said.

"It appears that they lived at the same address," said Assistant Prosecutor Michel A. Paulhus. "I think it's a two-family home, that’s the information that I have." 

O'Brien's bail was set at $750,000 with no 10 percent option by Superior Court Judge Stephanie M. Wauters.
