Barnegat Woman Arrested In Lacey Shoplifting

A Barnegat woman was involved in one of two shoplifting cases that occurred within an hour of each other on Tuesday, Jan. 21, police said.

According to police:

At 10:40 a.m., Officer Michael Hein responded to JR's Liquors, 1000 Lacey Road in Forked River, in reference to an attempted burglary. The owner reported that between Saturday and Tuesday that week, an unknown person or persons attempted to gain entry into the business. Several pry marks were discovered around the rear entrance door handle and lock.

At 9:35 a.m. that day, Officers John Simonson and Officer Anthony Sarno responded to Walmart, 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for a female shoplifter. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 39-year-old Donna Shaffery of Commodore Court in Barnegat for shoplifting merchandise valued at $254.

She was transported to police headquarters and processed. Shaffery was later released after receiving a criminal summons for shoplifting.
