Stafford Police - Beware Of Kids Buying Butane

Product is being used to refine marijuana stems and seeds into a potent intoxicant, police say

An important message from the Stafford Township Police Department, posted on the department's Facebook page.

Law Enforcement have learned that local tobacco shops in the area have seen a sharp increase of teen-aged kids wanting to purchase butane.

They've inquired what some of the uses may be because when they asked the teens what they wanted to use it for, they became evasive and did not give a straight answer. Additionally, one of them was asking questions about the butane he sells and the quality of the product. What we have learned is disturbing and needs to be shared with parents and our community:

What people (kids included) are doing is getting the stems and seeds from marijuana (anything that can't be rolled and smoked) then crushing it and rubbing it through a screen.

Once they do that, they put the crushed pot back in a strainer with a screen (sometimes using a French Press method). They use water to put on top of the crushed pot and then use the propane as a propellant to force the water through the pot into a container.

Most users make up an elaborate system using PVC and a tube. The thick juice that is produced is then pushed through the tube into a
container (lip balm tins are a popular container choice). The thick juice is then put in a refrigerator and left to cool. There are various methods to make this.

The end product is called "Honey Oil", or "Butta", which is a highly concentrated oil containing cannabinoids and THC, the chemicals that cause the "high" from using marijuana. The butane is basically used to process marijuana that would be considered shake, seeds and stems to refine it into a high quality potent intoxicant.

It’s also important to note that this process is highly flammable and could easily cause a fire or explosion. If parents do a Google search for "hash honey oil extraction with butane", you can get a better understanding of the process and how it works.

More information is available via the internet by typing "Butta" in your search engine. We hope you find this information useful and ask that you share the info with other parents.
