An elderly Tuckerton woman was severely injured Thursday in a one-car accident in the Mayetta section of the township, Stafford police said.
Theresa M. Ottomanell, 78, was traveling northbound on Route 9 near Allen Lane when her car left the roadway and struck a utility pole, then came to rest in the southbound lane, police said.
Ottomanell suffered moderate to severe internal injuries and was transported by Stafford Township EMS to the Doc Cramer Recreation Complex. She was flown to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's trauma unit by a MONOC 1 helicopter, police said.
Traffic was delayed in both directions on Route 9 for approximately 1 hour, while cleanup efforts were underway.
