Toms River police say they may have connected a video of a woman stealing another woman's purse at a supermarket last fall to a spate of thefts –including more recent ones – in supermarkets both in Toms River and other towns in Ocean County.

The department released surveillance video from the fall 2013 incident at the Route 37 West Shop Rite store on Wednesday. In it, a woman in her 20s, about 5'5" tall, with black hair steals the purse of a another shopper, identified as a 65-year-old woman, from her cart. The woman is seen wearing a shirt in the video with the phrase “Attitude Served Daily” written on it.

"Although this footage is dated, it is the best image so far that we have captured of this suspect," said police spokesman Ralph Stocco.

According to Stocco, the investigation has led officers to believe that the woman in the video continues to prey on elderly females and hope this footage aids in her apprehension. The woman may be involved in more recent thefts that have not been caught on camera, he said.

Anyone with information or tips can contact Detective Roger Hull at 732-349-0150 extension 1291.

I carry a big, heavy purse and always wind up putting it in the cart. But I always take the 30 seconds to buckle it into the cart using the child seatbelt. Please make it harder for this scum to do things like this. I know, the best practice is to keep it on your shoulder, but if yours is like mine, you wind up lopsided.

I use a crossbody bag when shopping, it may not be as fashionable (there are some really nice looking and nice size bags out there, I got a couple of soft leather ones from costco a couple of years back. also great for traveling), this way I know my bag is with me at all times. it is also much easier to carry while I am shopping with a child or pushing a wheelchair. I have many times, just in the past couple of month pointed out to women at the stores who just leave their bags in the cart and walking away, even if you strap it in don't walk away, keep an eye on the purse. I have notice that most of these women are (from my best estimate) over 60.

Always keep an eye on your purse. You never know who is looking to steal it. It's a shame but it's the world we live in.

I agree with Barbara...another thought...since it's winter and we're all wearing heavy coats...put your wallet and phone in a deep pocket, preferably one that buttons, and leave the suitcase home...do you really need all that "stuff" that you are carrying around 24x7? I doubt it...it will be better for your back and also improve your balance when walking on icy surfaces...

And when your going to your car to put groceries in the truck lock your pocketbook in the car. Your a target trying to put the groceries in the trunk, put keys in your pocket and if approach in parking lot if you have a button to sound the horn use it, it will scare them off and anyone outside will look your way. We live in a era where people are robbing us so they can get money for drugs.

I don't carry a purse at all. Never liked them never will. I don't get the big deal about purses or bags. I carry my wallet in my front pocket. Any robber wants it that bad they can TRY to take it but chances are they will end up in the ER.

Heroin wins again....too bad all you people caved when the blacks put pressure on you for profiling. A lot of this drug reaching our area is related to that outcome.
makemyday February 19, 2014 at 05:39 PM
Hey "ms attitude" try to take my purse, you'll never try to get another. You are a low life, stealing from the older people says a lot about your character, and it's not good!

Hey Maruca... I really hope you don't reproduce....Poor kids..

More condo's -more rentals = more HEROIN. . More crime !
John E February 19, 2014 at 08:08 PM
With black hair??? She doesn't have black hair (looking at the video)!
Vinnie Vincent February 19, 2014 at 10:31 PM
Maruca is right though...heroin was a problem since at least '94. I KNOW cause i knew a lot of the kids who were commuting to Newark & bringing it here to sell. Oh and WMS, they were WHITE kids! Yes, today it is a lot of our 'neighbors' from Lakewood & folks from up North that have populated our area that are moving the drugs now but back then it was local kids buying in bulk from up there & moving it down here. We didnt have the Patch & all the other social media to hear about it back then but it was still killing people & ruining lives. Now that everyone can voice their opinion & be heard it seems like its a new thing but i assure you it is not. Regardless, this community needs help!

Typical scumbag. She should try the old fashion way and work for your money !!!!
Mama February 20, 2014 at 08:27 AM
WMS - Where in the article does it say she stole purses for drugs? Just jumping to conclusions without any solid evidence to back your comment. Your probably friends with this girl, then you would know first hand if she is a drug addict. Oops, am I jumping to conclusions?
Andy Pat February 20, 2014 at 09:14 AM
I hate this stuff as much as anyone. However, I tell my wife and daughter that if some scum wants their purse, car, or anything else, give it up. These types might value your life less than a couple of dimebags. Do what you can not to become a victim. But if you have to let them take your pride but not your life.
WMS826 February 20, 2014 at 01:38 PM
So MAMA...please do not tell me she is only stealing to buy infant formula for her baby. We have social programs that I pay a lot of money so people like she and you can be on. You are the reason why this occurs in families, your denial and thoughts of being superior because you "don't judge" is what lets children go down this path.
DAS February 20, 2014 at 03:12 PM
Another useless post by WMS, racist scumbag!! Your children are going down the wrong path if they even associate with your drunk ass!!
BrickAmericanMan February 20, 2014 at 04:14 PM
she likes to play hide the sausage...literally
WMS826 February 22, 2014 at 09:43 AM
DAS..please explain how this can be a racists comment. You and I are fighting over the comments I made about your friend overdosing in Point Pleasant...please take a look at your own life and do a reassessment before you make up lies about others on here.
DAS February 22, 2014 at 10:16 AM
You say that drugs are reaching our area because people "caved when blacks put pressure on for profiling". Sound like a racist scumbag to me. Also, I'm not butting heads with because my friend passed in PP, I'm butting heads with you because you say some really stupid shit on here and it's fun to screw with morons like you who don't care who they hurt by their comments. So keep posting stupid shit and we can keep butting heads, try saying something intelligent on here when you get your head out of your ass.

Lock the seat belt in the cart around the strap of your pocketbook if someone tries to take it they will take the whole cart with it ;-)
Anthony March 02, 2014 at 11:30 PM
Why must a giant purse be carried into the store in the first place? All you really need is your money and possibly some ID, a list, and phone. Women at clubs have been getting around carrying a purse since forever ago. Keep a wristlet in your car and put only the essentials in it, then lock your purse in the trunk before you head into the store
Anthony March 02, 2014 at 11:32 PM
Or better yet, leave the purse home. If you aren't carrying cash, you actually don't even need the wristlet, they make cell phone covers that double as wallets
