Two People Injured In Manahawkin Accident On Route 72

Two people were injured last week in a Route 72 accident in Manahawkin, police said.

According to Stafford Township police:

On March 4 at 6:24 p.m., the Stafford Township Police Department responded to the intersection of Route 72 and Nautilus Drive, for a 4 car motor vehicle accident involving injury. A Toyota Minivan operated by Melissa Litt, 34 of Manahawkin was traveling east on Route 72.

She attempted to make a left hand turn onto Nautilus Drive and was struck by a Ford pickup truck operated by Michael Matevish, 26 of Manahawkin traveling west on Route 72. The collision spun the minivan in the intersection and sent the pickup truck onto Nautilus Drive where it struck a Pt-Cruiser operated by Ben Pieper, 53 of Manahawkin.

The Pt-Cruiser subsequently struck a sedan operated by Tracey Mcgowan, 41 of Manahawkin. Both the Pt-Cruiser and sedan were waiting in traffic on Nautilus Drive. The Minivan, the pickup truck, and the Pt-cruiser were towed due to damage.

Litt and Pieper were transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center for treatment. The Stafford Township EMS and the Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Company also responded to the scene.
