SEND YOUR PHOTOS: Residents, Businesses Clean Up After Severe Storm

Flash storm caused flooding and knocked down trees

Businesses and residents were recovering Monday from storms that flooded streets and knocked down trees in Barnegat, Manahawkin and Long Beach Island.

Power has been returned to most residents of Long Beach Island and Beach Haven West following a wide spread power outage that was caused by a severe thunderstorm.

If anyone has photos of the storm, please feel free to upload them to this story.

The storm passed through the area between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Sunday night.

Mar Rosario, an employee at Lukoil on Route 72 in Ship Botom, said the strong winds knocked down his tire rack, and flooding soaked streets from the library to 11th Street.

Dan Semon, a clerk at Gateway Liquors in Ship Bottom, said flooding blocked off LBI streets on Sunday night.

"It took me a couple extra minutes to get home," he said.

Residents reported power being out for at least an hour to an hour and a half. By 9:30 p.m. most residents had power restored.

Beach Haven West, Long Beach Island and the Causeway Bridge were completely without power at one point, an eyewitness reported.

Residents reported major pitchfork and ground lightning strikes, particularly over the waterways.

Severe road flooding was reported by eyewitnesses. Side streets near the causeway were flooded but accessible. The entry road to Ship Bottom was flooded with approximately two to two-and-a-half feet of water.

Erica Fidali, a bartender at the Gateway, said the storm "came and went" and she regreted leaving her car windows down.

"I left my windows down and my car was soaked," she said.
