Waretown Man Charged with New Year's Eve Hate Crime

Indictment notes that Waretown resident and East Windsor man drove to Sayreville specifically to assault non-Caucasian individuals.

A 31-year-old Waretown man has been arrested and charged in connection with a hate crime that occurred last New Year's Eve in Sayreville.

Federal agents arrested Christopher Ising this morning on an indictment that charges him with conspiracy to commit a hate crime, as well as the actual commission of a hate crime assault, in violation of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr., Hate Crimes Prevention Act.

Ising, a purported member of the white supremacist organization known as the “Atlantic City Skins,” is scheduled to make his initial court appearance later today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor, in Newark federal court, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman.

Michal Gunar, 27, of East Windsor, was also named in the indictment. Gunar is an alleged member of another New Jersey-based white supremacist group known as the “Aryan Terror Brigade.”

The New Year’s Eve assault involved three Middle Eastern men in Sayreville.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in federal court, on Dec. 31, 2011, Ising allegedly hosted a New Year’s Eve “meet and greet” white supremacist event at his former residence in East Brunswick.

According to the indictment, at 11:30 p.m., Ising and Gunar allegedly drove to an apartment complex in Sayreville, with the purpose of assaulting random, non-Caucasian individuals.

While at the complex, the defendants allegedly located and attacked three Middle Eastern men, shouting anti-Arab slurs, brandishing a knife, utilizing brass knuckles and injuring two of the victims.

A call to the Federal Public Defender's office regarding the indictment was not immediately returned.

why are they driving to Sayreville to find people to hassle? They should just stay in Waretown where everyone's white.

You have to remember that he has been charged and not convicted. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I could have told ya he would have turned out this way in middle school,I've known him since then and he's done nothing but go with the flow. No big surprise that he went to prison and no surprise that he came out worse then when he went in. Some people will never change and never learn their lesson

You guys sure are quick to judge someone for being judgemental. Say what you want about Chris. I don't support his views either, but politics aside, he is a loyal and caring friend and father and, despite the numbers of fair-weather friends who comment on Patch, he'll be missed by many who enjoyed his unique sense of humor, spontaneity, and loving nature.

I didn't stutter, and I meant every word. Unlike yourself, I haven't dumped everyone in my life who's made a mistake. If I had, I might be more inclined troll Lacey patch looking for a way to elevate my done-nothing life above everyone else. Hope you feel good about yourself because you're not the worst person on the planet, moron. Way to emphasize your many talents. So, yes, a damn good friend, and hilarious to boot. Also, he didn't have a knife, learn to read.
