Woman Airlifted to Atlantic City Following Head On Collision in Barnegat

Other driver issued a summons for failure to maintain a lane.

A Waretown woman was flown to Atlantic City Medical Center for treatment of serious leg injuries following a head-on collision this morning on Route 9, in the area of Cedar Street.

Barnegat police said around 6:30 a.m., a 2012 Dodge Journey operated by Katrina Beamon, 45, of Bronx, NY was traveling northbound when it left its lane of travel and struck a southbound 1998 Buick Lesaber operated by Debra Foley, 56, of Waretown.

The head on collision caused Beamon's vehicle to overturn and Foley's vehicle to leave the roadway and come to rest on the front lawn of 423 North Main Street.

Foley was entrapped in the Buick and was extricated by Barnegat Volunteer Fire Company Station 11.

Beamon and her passenger - Anthony Hardy, 40, of Queens, NY - were transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center by Quality Medical Transport with minor injuries.

Emergency personnel established an emergency landing zone behind the Elizabeth V. Edwards school on Route 9 where a MONOC medevac helicopter landed in order to airlift Foley to Atlantic City Medical Center for serious leg injuries. Birdsall Street was closed to through traffic during the helicopter's landing and departure.

Beamon was issued a summons for failure to maintain lane of travel.

Route 9 was closed in both directions for approximately one hour while emergency personnel were investigating the accident and treating the victims. Birdsall Street was closed to through traffic during the helicopter's landing and departure.
