Beach Haven Resident Makes Case for Stop Sign

Commissioners look into ways to 'make it right'

The corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Centre Street may be getting a four-way stop sign, if some Beach Haven residents get their way.

Carol Smiles, of Pennsylvania Avenue,  appeared before the Beach Haven Council earlier this evening to appeal to the board for a stop sign, following a traffic accident at that site on July 28. Although details of the accident were not immediately available, Smiles praised the response of emergency personnel,  saying "two fire trucks and two squad cars were on scene very quickly, so the response was admirable." However, she added, "can we also focus on preventing this from happening again?"
Councilman Edward Kohlmeir said he has spoken with Beach Haven police officials, and "we're going to make it right." He acknowledged that the corner of Pennsylvania and Centre is the only one on Centre that does not have a four-way stop sign. Other members of the Council echoed Kohlmeir's sentiments.
Smiles said she envisions a four-way stop way as a good way to prevent an "accident waiting to happen."
