Board of Ed and Administration Going Back to School in Stafford

The move into Oxycocus School is projected to save $75,000 a year.

STAFFORD TOWNSHIP ---- Preparations are nearly completed for next week’s move of the school district and Board of Education offices to Oxycocus School on Route 9, said an official on Wednesday.

The district had been leasing the former Stafford Municipal Complex at 775 Bay Ave. for $1 a year, said Rick Siano, the district’s business administrator. But they had outgrown the building that is also in need of repair, he added.

“We can expect to see a saving of around $75,000 a year in utilities and maintenance with this move,” the business administrator said.

Siano said plans are to disconnect all telecommunications and computer lines next Monday and for the actual move to take place Tuesday and Wednesday.

He anticipated their offices will be back in operation no later the beginning of the following week at the new location.

The administrative offices will occupy part of the Oxycocus building currently empty, said Siano. “There is plenty of room there, and we’ll share the building with the pre-school,” he added.

“I think it’s important that we get back to school,” he said, adding the Bay Avenue location was too far removed from the schools for his liking.

The town hall building and outer buildings and grounds will revert back to the township, whose administrator, James Moran, said there are no immediate plans for their use.

Previously, Mayor John Spodofora had told those attending a council meeting that the property had been donated to the township with a deed restriction that it could only be used for municipal purposes.
