Gov. Chris Christie has large leads over the other potential Republican presidential candidates in recent polls, but things might be more difficult for the New Jersey governor in a general election, a new poll finds.

A hypothetical presidential election between Christie and former U.S. Senator, Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton would be a tossup if the election were held this year, according to a new CNN/ORC international survey, cnn.com reports.

Christie would have the support of 48 percent of the voters, while Clinton would have support from 46 percent, according to the poll. The 2 percent difference falls within the poll's margin of error.

Like Christie, those surveyed prefer Clinton to the other potential Republican candidates by a large margin, according to the report.

Christie has the lead among men surveyed, defeating Clinton by about 14 percentage points. Clinton leads among women by about 10 percentage points.

The poll was conducted by ORC International from Dec. 16-19, and about 950 registered voters were surveyed nationally, according to the report.

Last month, a Quinnipiac poll had nearly the same results, with Christie taking 43 percent of the vote, and Clinton netting 42 percent.

An October Quinnipiac poll showed Christie beating Clinton 49 percent to 36 percent, while a recent NBC poll favored Clinton by 44 percent to 34 percent.

It is my belief that anyone that votes for clinton is doing so due to lack of knowledge of her past performance. It was not so long ago after bengazi blew up in their faces, she could not handle it. We all remember when it got at its worse all of a sudden she had some kind of blood clot in her head which took the focus off of her. When you are the leader of the free world those tactics dont work hillary. She was excused from her position soon after. We must choose who is next very carefully our economy is still very fragile, We need educated voters who do not vote for a certain party, but who research and then vote. I do not know how she would even have the nerve to run for the highest office in the land when she could not handle a lesser position. This is just my opinion anonymous
