Mold Awareness Seminars Coming to Ocean County

The Ocean County Health Department will be hosting a seminar on Saturday, May 4 in Stafford and Saturday, May 11 in Ocean Beach

Two seminars on mold awareness for Ocean County homeowners and residents will be held in May, Ocean County Freeholder Gerry P. Little announced.

The Ocean County Health Department along with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey will be hosting a seminar on Saturday, May 4 at the Stafford Municipal Building and Saturday, May 11 at the Ocean Beach First Aid Building, both from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“This is geared to homeowners that may be dealing with mold issues after Superstorm Sandy,” Daniel Regenye, Ocean County Health Department Public Health Coordinator said. “We know that many homeowners may be opening their homes for the first time since the storm and their safety is of utmost concern to us.”

Topics at the seminars will include awareness of mold, safe work practices, personal protective equipment, respiratory protection and best practices for remediation.

“The goal of this program is to provide mold awareness and general safety procedures to homeowners when dealing with post hurricane/flood clean-up issues,” Regenye said.

By the end of the program, homeowners should be able to:

  • Identify how and where to look for mold in their home
  • Understand how to protect themselves when cleaning up mold
  • Understand the types of personal and respiratory protection needed to protect themselves
  • Know what questions to ask mold remediation contractors
  • Understand clean-up procedures and other environmental and safety issues that may be present when cleaning up after a hurricane or flood.

The Stafford Municipal Building is located at 260 Bay Ave. in Manahawkin and the Ocean beach First Aid Building is at Kittywake Avenue in Ocean Beach just north of Lavallette.
